Ballpoint Pen and Gold Leaf Illustrations by Rebecca Yanovskaya

Rebecca Yanovskaya is a graduate from the Illustration program at Sheridan College. Her main focus is creating illustrations in the fantasy, sci-fi and horror genres. She is inspired by and frequently illustrates mythological stories, natural forces, and the beauty of the human figure.
While Rebecca’s work began in small sketchbooks it is becoming larger and more ambitious, with gold, floral patterns, and natural materials such as wood panels featuring in her work. Despite most artists in her genre using digital and traditional painting tools, she has made the choice to construct her pieces with ballpoint pen instead. (h/t: twistedsifter)

Private Moon by Leonid Tishkov

In 2003, Russian artist Leonid Tishkov fell in love with the moon and vowed to stay with her forever.
As the story goes, the moon descended from the sky and appeared in the thick upper brush of a pine tree outside Moscow; her crescent curves were boldly illuminated from within. Tishkov embraced her, adored her, and, when she asked to see the world, promised to show her as much of it as he could. “She shone to me personally and brightened my loneliness,” Tishkov says. Amazing Hand Painted Portraits by Russell Powell

Instead of painting directly on paper, first-grade school teacher Russell Powell paints realistic portraits directly on his hand, then using it as a stamp. The San Jose-based teacher-artist paints quickly enough that the paint doesn’t dry, letting his palm-lines become part of the piece. Powell calls this process “hand-stamping,” and even incorporates similar art projects into his classes.
